When you think about famous modern fashion designers, your mind goes perhaps to names like Dior, YSL or Chanel. It is not surprising, but if you are interested in fashion, you should know five fashion designers from Poland. Their projects are unique and famous worldwide. I bet you’ve never heard of them or you haven’t thought that they are from Poland…

1. Arkadius
He was a scandalous and the shining star of Polish fashion design. There was a time when his clothes were worn by world famous celebrities like Janet Jackson, Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Bjork, etc. His works were always close to Haute Couture than prêt-à-porter. The extravagance of the projects by Weremczuk made him famous out of Poland, but in his country, he became the most hateful designer. Now, as he came back with the new collections, he is known as AFKAA – Artist Formerly Known as Arkadius. He is still a rebellious artist, but now he protects his privacy more and works in a less public way.
2. Łukasz Jemioł
HE was born in 1983 and stays the leader of the young generation of Polish designers. His projects are simple, minimalistic and casual. The style proposed by Je mioł is comfortable, but also elegant. He is one of the favorite designers of Polish celebrities. Top model Anja Rubik and an actress Alicja Bachleda Curuś took his projects to Hollywood, where international community appreciated his talent. His collections known as ”Lukasz Jemiol Label” are available in the online stores, but also at the shops in Warsaw and Poznań.
In 2009 Jemioł designed the vacuum cleaner for the Electrolux company. The black vacuum cleaner decorated with Swarovski crystals became appreciated by Guinness. It is the most expensive vacuum cleaner around the world.
3. Monika Jaruzelska
She is a daughter of the former Polish President Wojciech Jaruzelski, a journalist but also a fashion designer. Her projects are nothing like fancy works by Weremczuk, but also more conservative than Jemioł. Her style is purely elegant, inspired by classical projects of the most famous designers. In the 1990s she co-founded the monthly magazine ”Your Style” (Twój Styl), which reminds the magazines like Vogue or Elle. Jaruzelska is also a writer. Her autobiography published in three volumes became an inspiration to dozens of Polish women. Jaruzelska is more than just a fashion designer; she is an icon. The modest style and humble personality make the unique woman whose works are worth of appreciation.
4. Ewa Minge
A woman whose story can make you cry. Minge faced a nightmare in her early marriage. She was a victim of domestic violence, and she was close to waste her talents. Fortunately, for over two decades she creates her projects. She has a fashion house and firms the luxurious line Eva Minge, which offers different collections, from sporty to haute couture. Since 1996 she traveled with her projects around the world. Her projects were presented in Barcelona, Vienna, Paris, Milan, Rome, New York, Moscow, Berlin, Montreal, etc. She was hired by Mattel company to project clothes for Barbie doll. She is very appreciated in Italy where she received a special award from Silvio Berlusconi in 2005. She was awarded for her impact on the culture of Rome.In 2008 her collection became a part of the special show during the famous film festival in Cannes. The list of her clients is long and includes Cheryl Cole, Paris Hilton, Kelly Rowland and Ivana Trump.
5. Maciej Zień
His career seemed to blossom when he had to take a few steps back. His career thrived when his clothes were worn by the former First Lady of Poland, Jolanta Kwaśniewska. His passion and unique abilities to make women feel beautiful brought him international fame. His projects are available in boutiques in London and Geneva. Zień believes that his greatest achievement was the collaboration with famous Patricia Kaas. His projects are inspired by trends, but also his own life. He can be a wizard from the fairy tale, who prepares a beautiful Cinderella-like dress for a gala, but also a wicked magician whose clothes should be worn by The Kiss. His travels inspire the newest collection of Maciej Zień through Africa, South America, and Europe. It’s a remarkable palette of colors and styles. The 3D embroideries allowed to present details in an unusual way. The main motifs are dragons, snakes, stars, but also details related to the book ”The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
