Slavic Mythology Museum Outside of Moscow

One of those bucket-list things you just have to visit in your lifetime

Pereslavl, Russia – a unique private museum of Slavic Mythology and Fairy Tales is located near the old city of Pereslavl -Zalesskij, 100 km to the north from Moscow. The exhibition presents a combination of visual, text, design and interior features, as well wax statues of some of traditional Russian/Slavic spirits and evil/good deities.

Unfortunately there is still no official museum dedicated to pre-Christian culture of Slavs here, probably because of aggressive position of the Church towards this topic. This museum in some cases looks too DIY, but you can notice how much love and skills were put in the creation of it. You will now engage in our virtual museum tour with us! h/t (Ivan Svarozic)

There is a beast with heart of cold stone that dashes like lightning, shreds flesh from bone. // Bewitched by this beast, I fell to my knees. My mouth babbled madness and mumbled soft pleas. // I stared down the ravenous, gnashing dark maw of a cute cuddly kitten with yarn in its paw
