That Catholic spirit in Slovak culture came weird to me first time I encountered Slovak media. Slovaks here are vastly Lutheran in Serbia, although there are significant numbers of babtists, catholics and methodists too. Cultural institutions were often built around Lutheran churches, so that plays a big role in our identity here, Catholicism is something foreign in that sense at least to me it is. That’s maybe the only thing that’s completely opposite up north and here.
