Bulgarians are Slavs, the only non-Slavic thing is their national name which they adopted from the Turkic Volga Bulgars that ruled them for a minor period of time. The Bulgarians are descendants of the 'seven Slavic tribes' that formed the first Slavic empire under the foreign nobility. The foreign (Turkic) nobility NEVER intermingeld with the lower (Slavic) class.

In comparisson to the Hungarians, the Bulgarians preserved their Slavdom.
