Most big cities are like that… when I was in France, the countryside people in towns like Bayeux and smaller cities like Saint Malo and Cherbourg are much friendlier than Parisians. But, generally speaking, I must say that big city folk are just more reserved with their warmth, but they often do have it. Smaller city and countryside folk are just open with you right away.

True, it is like this everywhere where village folk are still not so open to world we live in. There is somehow natural curiosity and warmth from them, but with globalisation/Americanisation, even this is becoming rare. :(
