I recently read an article somewhere, I can’t recall the source now, but if you are interested I will find it. At the end of WWII when Germany was under administration of Soviet Union and Western Allies, Lusatian Sorbs approached Soviet authorities on 4, yes on four occasions asking to establish autonomy in Germany for them. According to the source there were at least 500,000 people in Germany at the time identifying themselves as Lusatian Sorbs . In 1945 Soviets had many problems on their hands and autonomy was never established. If we had the head of the government who cared for Slavs back then, we may have seen Sorbian autonomy in Germany today.
