The statue of Soviet soldier is a part of a monument commemorating Soviet soldiers, who died during the liberation of Poland from the Nazis during WW II. The official name of the memorial is The Statue of Polish-Soviet Brothers in Arms, but locals (citizens of Warsaw) always called it The Four Sleeping Soldiers (statues, two Polish and two Soviet soldiers, have their heads lowered, look like sleeping). The monument was erected in Warsaw soon after the end of the war, in 1945. In November 2011 it was dismantled due to construction works on a new metro line.
