@Sviatogor Hmm yes, there’s a theory that our lands were settled in 2 waves, one coming from the north and the other from the south. The theory that we are west Slavs that were influenced by south Slavic languages also seems plausible considering we were first part of Samo’s realm and then the Austrian and HRE lands. Interesting to see that we are defined as a “separate branch” though. Still, the study only takes into consideration the literary language based on the Ljubljana koine (govor mesta Ljubljane), which was heavily influenced by Serbo-Croatian during the Illyrian period.
