Most European countries get along with their national minorities

Debatable. A lot bloody conflicts I can think of in Europe were because of national minorities and their issues with the majority + others. I think the official government policies of quasi-socialist European states is to 'get along with' or even embrace minorities but the issue among the people is different and creates a perpetual tension that erupts into open conflict. As the minorities grow so do their demands and they feel entitled to have the host country assimilate its culture to suit the minority rather than the minority assimilating into the majority. Moslems are most infamous for this I think but it happens between Europeans too. As you mentioned the Albanians in Macedonia and Serbia are a good example just to name a few.
