The river Elbe used to be the border to Slavic territory around the year 600 to 1000, and after the East expansion of the Germanic tribes, many Slaves where assimilated. Many Germans who’s families have been living in your area for Generations do have Slavic ancestry. Last names came into use only around 1200, so despite German last names, you might have more Slavic blood than you think. ;)
