The economy didn't crash because we were borrowing so much money, it crashed because after Tito died there was no one suitable to take reins of the country. Tito knew how to work with money, the people after him unfortunately did not and so Yugoslavia failed.
Not to mention the fact that America refused to give the republics aid unless they separated from Yugo…

Well said. Yugoslavia had a great position, she was part of Nesvrstani, neither West, neither East. This position was very beneficial. Yugoslav products were very easy to sell in countries members of Nesvrstani. And also Yugoslavia was some kind of mediator between West and East. Very good position. A lot of people are very nostalgic about Yugoslav way of life, jobs etc, not so nostalgic about Yougoslavia as state, or nostalgic about Yugoslav politic.
