Feel that I’m not quite connected to the thread, being in the USA, but I’m starting my Russia unit in class. People here have a very strange view about Russia, part fascination and part dread. We saw them as the sum of all evil for so long and then, they were seen as a weak loser of the cold war. I guess if I was a 49 year old Russian instead of a 49 year old American, I would have learned that the west will never trust or respect Russia, if they are weak. After the Yeltsin years, it is easy to see why so many Russians have supported Putin. I do not think his actions are going to build Slavic unity or increase cooperation, but then again, maybe that’s not important to him. I do find it interesting that Donald Trump seems to like and respect Putin.
