The song below is “recent version” of a song written during the Polish anti-Communist insurrection (1944-53). The author is unknown, by it was sang by the partizans in the Kresy (“Eastern Borderlands” annexed by the USSR), Podlasie and Lubelszczyzna [so technichally where I live].

Song of men with no home

In the forest bonfire burns
And the squadron’s song is heard.
And echo carries and carries
The song of men with no home.

It bickers and flashes for cheerfully,
For the burned men with no home
We will always eagerly stand for combat
To a combat are squadron is ready.

It bickers and flashes for cheerfully,
For the burned men with no home
We will always eagerly stand for combat
To the combat our squadron is ready.

What waits for us tommorow, we don’t know
Maybe the death will look us in the eye
We will always happily stand for combat
To the combat our squadron still goes.

And if the bullet will hit me
And the war will be over for me
Then my spirit, mates, will be running with you
Until Poland will be free again.

And if the bullet will hit me
And the war will be over for me
Then my spirit, mates, will be running with you
Until Poland will be free again.
