why are there so many ethnic groups in the balkans when everyone essentially speaks the same language. Seems just counter productive. I mean I understand when there is a religious divide or a linguistic divide but when thats not the issue why be seperate? 

well that is a $1,000,000 question. if you ever find an answer, please share it with me. in my personal view, croats, serbs, bosniaks, montenegrins are all the same people – yugoslavs. otherwise, i dont have a nationality, as i stated. my citizenship is american.

as far as DNA analysis, how close are macedonians and bulgarians? i personaly dont see the difference that isnt utterly superficial. language is the same with some small regional differences, and so is religion.
