Very true. I’ve lived in the US for a long time now, and every American just says it so much…so much that I’ve given up trying to just say cheers (or «будем», which is “we will”). And yes, на здорове should only be said for “bless you”. It’s weird otherwise. In English, the translation “to health” may sound like a drinking cheer, but it is for sneezing, as a ward for maintaining health in the face of any possible sickness. And anyways, “we will” is far more meaningful, as it effectively states that a hypothetical “we” are indeed going to do something, whether it be survive, succeed, etc.
