Kargapol, Russia. This old church standing on the plain, is open to wind and weather, and the wasteland spreads around for many kilometres. The church is dated 1655, being one of the oldest architectural monuments of the Arkhangelsk region. Right now we are going to have a closer look at it and visit the neighbouring village, Saunino, where one more equally old church complex is situated.

I wonder how this wooden stuff in such harsh and cold climate did survive for so long :/

Црква светих апостола Петра и Павла – Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul

The oldest intact Serbian Orthodox Church. It was built by the Roman Byzantine in the IV century, while there have been made some additions in the VII and the IX century by the Serbs. It's located on the hill Ras (Rascia). It' known as a baptismal church and state council site of the Nemanjić dynasty.

I know that it doesn't have anything to do with XIII century, nor is it a typical Slavic church, but still, it's a hybrid worth your attention. ;D

Dažbog, please can you find some smaller images. These you posted from wikipedia take forever to load…all pictures are larger than 1900 in resolution :/

Do you still have the same issues with loading? My internet speed is not the greatest, but page loads reasonably fast. I'm struggling to find some pictures from the inside. Try again, and if it's still slow I'll change to whatever I find.  :-

    Download and rescale them.

They didn't take long to load. Maybe it depends on the internet speed.
I wonder what happened to the community at the Kargapol Russian church?
