    Greetings to the forum.

I recently was interested about the origins of my family name. I'm Serbian from my father and Greek from the side of my mother.

My family name is Svitlica, and though i searched through the internet about the origins, i could not trace the roots. The only thing i could find was that, there are two rivers named svitlica, one in Russia, and one in Ukraine, could that mean that the origins are from there?

I know that the ancient Slavs ( i searched mostly southern Slavs) were organized into smaller tribes, each shared a common name, and though i could see many names that survived till today, i could not see Svitlica anywhere. I'm sure though that there are many in serbia with that name.
So, is there anyone that has any info on the background?

Ps: This forum is really helpful to gather material about Slavic history and culture, a big thank you to all the people contributing to it.

Ps: I hope all Slavic people unite, we share common history and background, don't forget the past but move on.

Ps: Much love and regards to Croatian BROTHERS.

    Svijetlica/Svjetlica

Janjatoviću i "Prezimenima Srba u Bosni", Svjetlice su krajem 19. veka bile nastanjene u Bugojnu, Vaganu (Gerzovo), Gašici i Bijakovcu (Gradiška), Duboviku i Ivanjskoj (Krupa) i samoj Krupi.

Evidentirana su i prezimena ijekavskog oblika – Svjetlačići u Pakracu i Siraču (Daruvar), Svjetlečić u Novoj Gradiški, Svjetličić u Požeškoj Cesti (Pakrac) i Roždaniku (Novska), a Svjetlić u Levanjskoj Varoši i Trnavi (Đakovo).

Eventhough one cannot say for sure, I would say Banjani.
