Nice pics! More they are, better it is! :D Well, I haven't been to all of course, mainly Styrian catles. I've been at Celjsi grad (both), Ljubljanski, Ptujski, Lemberg, Rifniški, Olimje, Žička kartuzija, Otočec and Velenjski grad. Not many, but it was interesting. What about you?

The problem is some dvorci are in private property… :P I think most iconic castles of Slovenia are Predjamski, Blejski and Celjski Stari grad. Do you agree?

Yeah, this one's great. If you ever visit it please stop by and check out the Postojna Cave (Postonjska jama). It's very interesting and you can see an unique animal "človeška ribica"/močeril (proteus).

Oh, well as you may have noticed I am Istro-Slovene (grandpa was originally from Kranjska – hence the nickname) so I haven't had the chance to visit many Slovenian landscapes :(

I was in Bled when I was little though. And yes, it is emblematic Slovene castle.

Also, I visited many castle ruins in Istra (Slovenian part of course), like Socerb

Great view from the castle! :) Interesting too. Sadly though our castles aren't that big and shiny like Hradčani or sth like that… Anyway, Celje Castle will be restaured in some 50-100 years (hopefully  ;)). That will be great. Maybe we should make a thread abou the Counts of Celje. They were important for Middle Europe afterall! If they wouldn't have died out the Habsburgs maybe never would get the power over the empire…

Well, right now you and me are the only two active Slovenian users so you are definitely encouraged to open new threads on Slovenia! :D

Counts of Celje wielded considerable power, and Ulrich II was a very important figure in Hungarian courts. Very interesting they died out on the height of their power, their last male descendant murdered, no less :)

    I smell Habsburg involvement.

Great thread Štajerc! Personaly i dont view private ownership of castles as any problem at all. Grad Tuštanj in Moravče is private property and it is well maintained. To me who owns a castle is totaly unimportant what is important is that owner takes care of it.

Thank you! I actually ment if they're private, you can't go and visit them, have a look inside. That of course isn't true for all of them.

That is true. However i suspect if someone would ask owner nicely for a tour things might be arranged. But people are diverse so it depends on owner. :)

That is true. I think what is also sad is that many castles are ruins like in Višnja gora, Rifnik or Celje. It sad that Celjski grad is in such bad condition… It was the bigest medival stronghold on our soil afterall. Although it's getting renewed and restaured it's gonna take a lot of time like some 50 years or more.

Indeed Celje castle will take long time. However i realy wonder if they use "authentic" material for restoration? Imagine how will it look when rebuild! XD It will be a sight and a half. It is a great sight even as a ruin. Anyway Celje castle during 17th century; :D
