China has successfully landed a jet fighter on its new aircraft carrier for the first time, officials say.

A Chinese-made J-15 fighter landed on the 300m (990ft) former Soviet carrier during recent exercises, China's defence ministry said on Sunday.

The Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier, entered into service in September.

China says the vessel has had extensive sea trials and will increase its capacity to defend state interests.

Analysts say the aircraft carrier will allow Beijing to help project its military might in territorial disputes.

China's state TV showed a hook on the rear of the J-15 catching hold of a cable on the deck of the vessel to slow the plane to a halt during the drill.

China had not previously announced that its navy possessed such highly technical landing technology, according to the AFP news agency.

The J-15 can carry anti-ship, air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles as well as precision-guided bombs, China's official news agency Xinhua reported, citing unnamed naval sources.

Just for information, this "Liaoning" aircraft carrier was formerly known as the Varyag ("Варяг"), constructed in the 1980s for the Soviet navy but was never completed. After the collapse of USSR, it was sold by Ukraine for China as a 'Floating casino' ::)

The aircraft J-15 is nothing more than a chinese copy of Su-33, Russian carrier-based air defence fighter designed by Sukhoi, also sold to China by Ukraine ;D

Do Siberian cities like Irkutsk employ Chinese as cheap work labour?

Things might get nasty. China is an impressive geo-political and military entity, and the only nation which could put them in their place is powerless at the moment  :D

There is still hope though that they implode economically, if their work force starts some mass protests against the deplorable conditions they have to line in.

At the moment China is no dangerous i think. In fact much of their economy is due to presence of foreign mostly western firms so there is a catch additionally there is much economic rise due to construction of new ghost cities via order of the communist party but few can afford to buy apartment there. China can become dangerous when they improve domestic economy instead of just being factory to the west.

China is dangerous because all latin-america + north america + west europe + russia cannot match the number of (good) scientists graduating every year from chinese universities.

Something like that. Corrupt authorities give asians agricultural land in the Urals and Siberia in exchange for a portion of their income. I know they are employed in agriculture somewhere even in my state, but I do not recommend eating their products :)

Yes, the huge war between chineses vs neighbouring asians and their american protectors could solve the problem. China would outright lose this hypothetical conflict.

At this moment the principal problem is not even the China nor their half-Soviet military, but Russia's demography and migration processes in the country cause more worries:

True but you know it's a huge country. In any case despite this it will take them quite some time but this isn't meant Russia and other Slavic countries should sleep and wake up one day under Chinese supremacy.

Sorry, but your message doesn't make any sense.. Hatred because of what? Their asian wet dreams are consistent to the accepted decisions and common policy of Putin in the region, and since the love for Putin is primarily over all rational reasons for you personally, you must love them even more than you used to do.

Sometimes I wonder where the "superior" Chinese minds would be without old Soviet Technology and more modern Russian tech.
