To anyone interested in Ukrainian culture, history and people I recommend this site:

    http://www.encyclopediaofukraine.com/

It has tons of interesting and accurate articles about Ukraine and Ukrainian people. Many articles I posted in this section are from there as well.

Unfortunately, these are the stereotypes – smuggled cigarettes and alcohol; Ukrainian workers who work for less money here; Ukraine as a country which was the part of the Soviet Union before; Ukraine as the country we know almost anything about, because our world ends on the eastern borders.

It's a pity, 'cause you've got an amazing culture as well as history and I personally like Ukrainian folk costumes, especially the embroideries on them, or the folk songs in which one can hear ancient Slavic singing.

Ukrainians wearing Vyshyvanka. The embroidery differs greatly from region to region.

This version is more beautiful in my opinion:

"Tuman yarom…" – Tercja Pikardyjska – Туман яром (A capella)

I noted this phenomenon. Ironically, Western Slavic stereotypes about Ukrainians are the same stereotyps Western Europeans have about all Slavic immigrants.
