Pentaz i think east Germans and south-east Austrians are 50%-60% slavic. Just look at their nicknames, culture, tradition, costumes etc. I think language is only thing that makes them German everything else is pure slavic.November 14, 2011 at 7:22 pm #366083
the same logic can use to say that Russians are ugrofins
look at geography names around Moscow and Moscow particularyNovember 14, 2011 at 7:25 pm #366084
There’s no doubt about it. Russians themselves are a mixture of a lot of things when we’re at it, no one said they’re 100% Slavic or something thus that is no surprise. Most ethnically preserved Slavic grouping are the western Slavs…and they haven’t been affected by Germanics but vice versa western Slavs affected much of the present day Germanic ethnic composition as we can see.
Yeah, practically whole Eastern Germany is Slavic basically, from geography marks to city names even to genetics of people.November 14, 2011 at 7:28 pm #366085
Germanics often say Slavs are only a linguistic group… the same can be said for Germanics.November 14, 2011 at 7:50 pm #366086
I agree. Germans are very diverse, they have Germanic, Celtic, Slavic and even Roman influences.November 14, 2011 at 7:54 pm #366087
I was born and raised in a city divided in two one part in Germany and the other in Poland, so I understand your points here. Valid points. To me interesting thing will be, as the Wends learn that they are not genetically German but Slavic how will that affect their perception of identity. There maybe a revival of Slavic culture there or maybe not, time will tell. Sure as heck we are living in interesting times.November 14, 2011 at 8:33 pm #366088
What makes the German go absolutely nuts is that their nation is actually a fairly large hodgepodge of various groups. Germans have been good administrators for quite sometime, so they were able to put them all together in one federal nation. However, the differences don't go away and with the Western decadent model of society, it will be interesting to see what happens next. I think each side will be inclined to try and assert itself and thus threaten any previously perceived great national unity. Surely, the NPD-types will go apeshit when nations with greater ethnic unity, such as the Western Slavic nations, start to matter more on the European, and even world, stage.
The differences between Cologne German and Bavarian German and Hochdeutsch (the official version of German) are quite substantial. And this is just languages that we're talking about. Germany is like a smaller China – all under one general umbrella of "German" like the Chinese are "Chinese" but China has over 55 ethnic groups. Germany has less, but still more than they'd like to admit.December 2, 2011 at 6:41 pm #366089

Only the centralists are happy with what is happening, I would prefer to live in a loose federation. Thanks to Jacobin-style politics, Standard German was enforced, the native languages, dialects and regional customs actually die. (The first thing Hitler die, whe he came to power, was to destroy the German federation and introduction of an even stronger centralism than Weimar Republic had…). It is sad we South Germans whored ourselves to Prussia, now we pay the prize for supporting their imperialist wars. (on the other hand, Switzerland also gets destroyed by multiculturalism).December 2, 2011 at 7:22 pm #366095
According to Joseph Arthur de Gobineau, the father of modern racial demography, are the people of todays Germany "a mixture of Celts and Slavs". (Ref. Hans Fenske: Politisches Denken im Zwanzigstem Jahrhundert, in: Joachim Lieber(Hrsg.): Politische Theorien von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart, Bonn 1991, S. 803)
Hitler and Nazism borrowed much of Gobineau's ideology, though Gobineau himself was not anti-Semitic, and may even be characterised as philo-Semitic. Gobineau wrote positively about the Jews, including the long eulogy to the Jews in his Essai sur l'inégalité des races, describing them as "a strong, a free, an intelligent people". When the Nazis adopted Gobineau's theories, they were forced to edit his work extensively to make it conform to their views, much as they did in the case of Nietzsche.December 2, 2011 at 8:24 pm #366096
The German Anthem "Deutschlandlied" is actually an old Croatian folk song "Vjutro se ja rad vustanem" from northern Croatia (Medjimurje), that Joseph Haydn took as a melody for his work.March 29, 2012 at 1:12 pm #366097
This really isn't new stuff.
Every single child know the whole eastern germany (modern germany/Nemacka) was slavic lands inhabited by slavs. Check up on Niklot, the progenitor of the house of Mecklenburg for example.March 30, 2012 at 12:18 am #366098
Those people who wish to create trouble between the Germanic and Slavic people tend to be either to put it mildly not the sharpest tools in the shed or agitators who have an interest in seeing a conflict between these two groups take place.
May no Slavic and Germanic nation ever have to go to war with each other.March 30, 2012 at 12:30 am #366099
This. Imagine our tribes setting our differences. None would have anything on us. Maybe Japanese. Otherwise, Slavic and Germanic tribes have had more influence on this world we live in terms of culture, language and just shear influence than us. My apologies, Romanic tribes are equal to us historically, but now are failures in modern terms.April 2, 2012 at 6:18 am #366100
There are spreading on the internet new theories claiming that there was nothing like "german" in the age of the fall of Roman Empire in the ancient times . They claim that Germans was just one of the many ancient slavic tribes. And the whole thing around so called "grand migration of the nations" is pure nonsens.
Comparassion of the word "German" in slavic and german languages.
We didn´t come here from swamps in Ukraine as we learn in the school nowadays. We have been always here. You can see it on the names of cities, rivers and hills. Even such city as italian Venice(Italian: Venezia, German Venegig ),adj. Venetian refers to slavic origin. Slavs – Venets. Grand Moravia in early Middle ages bordered with Frankish Empire. There was nothing like Germany at that time.
I think that todays Germans are offspring of Franks or Normans, but in the ancient times they were Slavs.
