The "Semmelweis reflex" or "Semmelweis effect" is a metaphor for the reflex-like tendency to reject new evidence or new knowledge because it contradicts established norms, beliefs or paradigms.
THIS is precisely why people refuse to see the Third Position politically and economically. It is named after Austrian Doctor Ignaz Semmelweis who recommended to his colleagues that they wash their hands at work so as to lessen the chance of infection on the patients that they care for and operate on. They immediately denounced him as nuts, ridiculed him and ended up plotting to have him sent to an insane asylum in Vienna.
Now think about it in terms of banks and, more importantly, in terms of National Socialism. HoLacoste "deniers" are imprisoned in Europe, for one.
