Poles are accusing Russia of incompetence and disrespect in the handling of bodies from the 2010 plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others, including many top officials.
As part of a new investigation into the crash, 24 coffins have been exhumed, and authorities say half contained body parts of multiple people. The coffin of Gen. Bronislaw Kwiatkowski had parts from seven other people, while that of Archbishop Miron Chodakowski contained the top half of his body and the lower half of another general. The officials had been flying to a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the World War II Katyn massacre, when Soviet forces executed 20,000 Polish officers. In April, Poland’s top prosecutor said there was “no doubt” that Russian air traffic controllers deliberately contributed to the crash.
“Today we know that there was no diligence in (the post mortems conducted in Russia). There was nonchalance in the best case, and ill-will in the worst case,” Magdalena Merta, the widow of Tomasz Merta, a senior culture ministry official who died in the crash, told the Polish state agency PAP.
She accused Russia of “displaying a filthy attitude towards our dead”.
Russia has so far refused to return the wreckage of the jet to Poland, a member of NATO and the European Union, citing its own continuing investigation.
Nine post-mortems were conducted by Poland before 2016 and showed that six bodies were in coffins that did not bear their names, officials said at the time.June 15, 2017 at 3:42 am #438396
This is actually funny. I wonder if the Russians can make the polish president cry on live tv. Vae victis, bitch!June 15, 2017 at 6:54 am #438400
Dear kids, if you don’t want to be like this guy above, never drink vodka at 5 AM.
Regarding the topic, in my opinion Polish government and media should talk less about their investigations. The thing about different parts of bodies is okay to mention, but I’m afraid they talk way too much the Smolensk crash, plus having some “holy day” on every 10th day of a month is rather idiotic. Anniversary every month…June 15, 2017 at 10:05 am #438411
It’s almost like they have an ulterior motive, eh?
