Just read about how Poroshenko is now bringing his nationalist agenda to Constantinople to appeal for autocephaly.  Does he not understand that Constantinople has no authority on the matter, and that the ROC in the Ukraine is already autonomous?  He would have to make the appeal to Patriarch Kirill in Moskva, not to Bartholomew in Constantinople, in order to get such a result, and even so, it is unlikely that Bartholomew would risk the unity of the Church for the nationalistic agenda of the Evromajden government.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople is the mother of all Orthodox churches, so they certainly do have some authority on the matter. It’s another question that they’re generally opposed to ethnophyletism and expecting support from them just because they have somewhat of a rivalry with the Moscow Patriarchate – eh, that’s somewhat naive.

Another point to make as well is that if the Ukrainian Church gained autocephaly, which it will not if Bartholomew knows his place, it would be the heresy of ethnophyletism, as this attempt is a direct and open attempt to forcibly nationalise and de-Russify an institution that has always been pan-East Slavic, with no regards towards being Russian, Belarusian, or Ukrainian.  Poroshenko is a bad man, and his attempt to impinge upon the religious unity of the Rus’, as tenuous as it has proven in the past, is inexcusable.  The nationalists who have wanted to attack the Lavra caves and other significant places of the ROC are pure evil men and women.

How many people are really Orthodox in Ukraine?

The appeal of politicians on religious matters in Ukraine is against Ukrainian constitution. The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople already stated this a couple of years ago.

I doubt autocephaly will be given to self-proclaimed Orthodox church of Kiev patriarchate. I don’t believe existing Orthodox patriarchates will agree without Moscow patriarchate. Currently , Moscow patriarchate is the basis of Orthodoxy. So powerful is the patriarchate in the world of Orthodoxy.
