So apparently Serbian white 2 headed eagle is not eagle. Its a 2 headed phoenix or Zar-ptica in Slavic mythology. There are many pictures showing that it was red. And who would put red eagle for coa?
Here is a picture from monastery.

Flag of tsar Dushan – 2 headed phoenix on yellow background.

    This is very interesting.
Is this your own theory or did you find it somewhere? I'd definitely like to read more on this.

Isn't the Firebird virtually absent from South Slavic folklore? Are there any indications that it was lost only recently?

Both the cross with the 4 Cs and the 2 headed eagle are directly adopted from byzantine heraldry.

It is known that it was red in history, but its my theory that it was phoenix :). There is no history records to back it up, you can only judge by the looks.

These are figurines found in Serbia period 5500 – 4500 BCE. Much older than Sumerian civilization which was around 3500 BCE.

The adoption of byzantine helardy was a direct claim on the heritage of the empire. This is why Russia adopted the eagle too. Only reason Bulgarian rules didn't was that we hated them so much.

Definitely not zhar-ptitsa, as it's a beautiful, magical bird . The two headed eagle is a bird of prey.

Bonsek, I will have to say that you have interesting ideas. but please do not let Deretić to be your idol :)
Our eagle is Byzantine one. Half of European countries have Roman eagle on their CoA. nothing shameful there.

Why is Deretic so disrespected? He has backup for everything he say. Btw Roman tsar Likinije was a Serb.

    KARLOVACKI RODOSLOV:

    VRHOBREZNICKI RODOSLOV:
"….imase(misli se na Konstantina Velikog-prim.Vid) boljarina nekojega Srbina po imenu Likinije.I dajet jemu sestru svoju Konstanciju za zenu."

    KONSTANTINOV RODOSLOV:
"Ovaj Likinije bese dalmatinski gospodin, rodom Srbin i rodi od Konstantije sina Bela Urosa."

    PAJSIJEV RODOSLOV:
"…po srede ze ih carstvujuscu Likiniju mucitelju severnimi i zapadnimi stranami, jeze Srbin jest."

    OBSTI LIST PATRIJARSIJE PECKE:
"Ovaj Likinije imao je dva sina koji su sa majkom posle smrti Likinijeve(325) pobegli iz nekada slavnog grada Sirmijuma.Iz toga grada oni su preko Bosne pobegli u Zahumlje u otecestvo svoga oca Likinija…Loza koja je od njih vodila dala je prvog blagocestivog cara naseg Nemanju, koji se u monastvu prozvao Simeon."

    RUVARCEV LETOPIS:
"Likinije malo prebiv u blagocasti poce muciti Hriscane.Car Konstantin poce Likiniju slati knjige po odabranim slugama moleci Likinija da prestane sa mucenjem hriscana, ali ovaj nije hteo da ga poslusa.Na to car Konstantin posalje svoje vojnike koji Likiniju odsekose glavu.Sin Likinijev Beli Uros vide veliki strah i uzas i pobeze u tvrdu zapadnu stranu u Zahumsku zemlju i tamo je porastao."

Wikipedia – "Licinius was traditionally for centuries throughout the entire Serbian historiography considered as a Serb and as a forefather of the House of Nemanjić."

There is also a book and its not by Jovan Deretic :p

And? There were soem Lithuanians claiming to be descendants of Caesar. What we have here is rather simple, just compare sources.Firstly, you would give priority to Latin source from IV century to OCS source from XV century, about Roman emperor.
