Religious Tattoos, Croatian women from Bosnia tattooed themselves with Christian symbols in order to prevent Muslims to convert them.

    Tribal tattoos

It’s an ancient tradition that has been practiced by most of the human populations on Earth. We used to mark ourselves for all kind of reasons, some where personal, some where to show the status inside the society or where you belong, and on end some were just of artistic nature…but today in 21.st century there is an animosity towards tattooed people and the act itself in European and in general white societies, even thought it has been the part of European tradition from it’s beginnings…
What’s your opinion on tattooing, and would you do it yourself?

Yes. Our ancestors also had tattoos, and I have nothing against them, while they are adequate and not too excessive.

    Great art work:

I got all of these when I was a bit younger…18, 19, and 20…I am 25 now…and contemplating what my next tattoo will be.
These pics were taken with my phone…I cant find my digicam..oh well

This one is a cover up…when I was 16 I got a HIDEOUS tattoo…which you can still barely see underneathe this one…so I had it covered up in some random floral design I drew. I am comfortable with this tattoo..the colors are pretty. On my lower inner left arm.

This is a Sanskrit Mantra: "Lead me from the unreal, to the real. From darkness to light. From death to immortality." On my inner right arm, right below my inner elbow.

And this..on the back of my neck…is just the AUM symbol. I got it on my 18th birthday

I like  letters..words…I think words are powerful…I would like to get "Don't Panic" in Serbian (latin alphabet) around my right wrist like a bracelet…and…maybe a few more very small ones.

I honestly do not know if do it or not. My concerns are related to the fact that if I do a tattoo I can not donate blood nor spinal cord, I think. This is why I am undecided, if ever serve? Maybe it's pessimistic, but who knows?

I would never do it personally, but I respect someone who does it for real/genuine reasons.

"Real/genuine" reasons are very subjective, I would imagine  ;D

Indeed they are. Who is anyone to judge what gets ones endorphins flowing  ;)?

I have been reading on the religious tattooing of Bosnian Croatian women…sooo inspiring…wow. Everyday I learn something that makes me more and more proud of my heritage.

Very interesting. Religious as in pagan or Christian? Is it Southern Slavic thing or perhaps Illyrian?

Well the kind I am reading about is Christian, but apparently it is a tradition that goes back further than Christianity…
