Howdy folks, so today I had an idea for a silly thread.  I noticed there are some surnames in Polish which could sound super exotic (non-European) to an English speaker.  Some examples of such surnames in Polish include:

Misiuro (which would sound roughly like “Mishuro” in English, and might sound Japanese)
Korciba (which would sound roughly like “Korcheeba” in English, and might give a Japanese or South American Indian vibe)
Kaszuba (would be written Kashooba in English)

Also there are some surnames in Polish which seemingly defy rules, like the surname of Mariusz Ojcomił Żydowo, which sounds more like a village name than an actual surname.

Can you think of any from your own language?

In my own experience, we’ve had several people ask if my moms maiden name, Pejsha, was Persian or Turkish.

Yea I had an ancestor with the name dobrovoda, I guess to an American it would look extremely exotic.
