    Man that's just sad  :-

    On the other hand, it's almost hard to believe that a few thousand miles to the west prisons look like this-

    Prison must be prison and nothing else. If it is like a Hotel, many people will try to be there. And this meens they will make more crimes and murders.

    The most sad aspect that according  to different researches about a half of prisoners in Russia are innocent people http://www.rususa.com/news/news.asp-nid-56016

    The noticable part of prisoners were arrested for minor violations like stealing of unimportant stuff.  I'm silent about 282 Article of the Russia's Criminal Code.  At the same time billions of dollars are stolen by the ministries and departments, top thieves in the country got state awards and even monuments.

    Prisons should reliably isolate dangerous criminals and promote the rehabilitation of potentially normal people as far as it possible. Both tasks are not performed by Russia's prison system.

    Half? That's pretty much. Are all prisons like the one in the video?

    Yes, that's very much and this statistics doesn't surprise me, because according to another data  about 99% of criminal cases in Russian courts end with guilty verdicts. Considering "not well" quality of work of Russian police and investigators, it causes so high percent of innocent  imprisoned people.

    I don't know how all Russian prisons look like, but I guess the majority of them are similar with the first video. There's a shortage of prisons and free cameras, therefore it's usual to meet over 20 people in camera for 4 prisoners.

    Another pathetic example, man had stolen 2 sausages and got about 3 years of prison http://www.newbur.ru/articles/9986

    Funny thing is, when the first modern prisons were invented (in Great Britain), the poor used to commit crimes just so they could go to jail where they were safe, received medical care, and had meals everyday ;D

    Prisons in the USA are brutal and violent.  Especially in places like Texas and Louisiana.

    I felt so angry when I could read in the video that the people for stealling tree windows or tree chicken they got more then other people for murder  >:(…and in suck conditions. Does anyone know in which year was made this documentary? It's very well done.

    If this is true its sad;

    Vitka stole three hens and got five and a half years. If you kill someone you get four years.

    I have always felt that you get in more trouble for stealing a hundred dollars than you do for stealing ten million dollars

    I'd do away with prisons altogether. They are not rehabilitating anyone, just the opposite in fact, and there are way better deterrents.

    Look for alternatives that don't involve incarceration for prolonged periods of time.
