As many as 230,000 former anti-communist activists could qualify for benefits under the terms of a bill being prepared by the Polish Senate.

The figure is significantly higher than initial estimates made by the Senate, with the bill aiming solely to aid veterans who are currently in difficult financial circumstances.

The Senate initially calculated that about 10,000 to 20,000 former activists would qualify for the benefits.

However, Poland's upper house of parliament commissioned the Public Opinion Research Centre (CBOS) to research the matter.
Almost 800,000 Poles currently over the age of 40 declared that they had participated in Poland's anti-communist movement, and of these 230,000 could qualify for benefits.

The highest benefit would be a monthly sum of 800 zloty (185.5 euro).

Applicants will have to provide documentation of their political activities, if the bill is passed.

There are always a minority who will lie either for glory or material benefits. In France, for example, about 80% or so of the people who were registered as resistance fighters during WW2 only joined up after the Allies had invaded and pushed the Germans out. Same in the Netherlands.

Well we have partisan fighter vets with fighters pensions who were children during WWII (actually some were even born after WII). So we make fun that our Partisans are younger and younger every year and there are more and more of them. ;D

I recon this is european wide. Something similar was here. The number of anti-fascist fighters just skyrocked overnight when Russians were nearing.

Yes, on celebrations each year there is more and more of them. Which is funny since those who were really battle ready woulw be in 85-90 range today.

Perhaps, may be they should first think about canceling, all those benefits which these old-red communist dogs are still taking?
