It must be a singer within the period from 1945-1991. I'd like to hear opinions. Some names that jump out at me right away are like Tereza, Lepa Brena, and Bijelo Dugme.  But when I really think about it and asked this question of people that lived most of their lives during that period I have to with Miso Kovac just for the memorable songs that live on to this day.

Hm. Goran Bregović? – he was in Bijelo Dugme in fact. Halid Bešlić?

I've got only these two guys in my mind now.

Think Novi Fosili were more popular than Azra.

Ne znam za druge, ali za mene je Azra najveći muzički brend ovih prostora.

Zdravko Čolić was pop god. Bijelo Dugme was probably the most popular band. I don't like either of them.

    Slavko Avsenik ftw :P

Joke, though one of his songs is the most often played instrumental and second most often played song in general.

From whole Yuga, I'd say Bjelo Dugme and Mišo Kovač. From SR Slovenija, I'd go with Oto Pestner.

Azra is my favorite Yugoslavian band too, but I wouldn't say they are the most popular one. Far from it. But also, popularity doesn't imply quality.

I like Parni Valjak very much. Since I heard this song I have no doubts, because I think the melody line is very similar to Polish rock bands from those times and the lyrics are easy to comprehend in Polish :)
