Mystical Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria

The Rhodope Mountains are a great mountain range in Southeastern Europe, with over 83% of its area in southern Bulgaria and the remainder in Greece in the Bulgarian South have always been regarded as a place of sanctity and magic. In history people believed that this is the birthplace of Orpheus – the divine musician and poet from the Greek Mythology. The mystical atmosphere can be felt at the ritual sites from the past such as ‘solar circles’, womb-shaped caves, altars and ritual couches. Famous photographer and cinematographer Krassimir Andonov, revealed the secret magic of this area by photographing them after sunset with the help of spotlights and directed lights to emphasize the ‘invisible’ rock carvings which are invisible to the eye unless one knows where to look. Some of the rock carvings captured by the artist are first-time discoveries unknown to scientists until now.
