We have already published a map of the number of vegetarian restaurants per 1 million people in Europe, and this time Jakub Marian thought it would be interesting to take a look at the other side of the coin as well—and what could be more “opposite” to being vegetarian than hamburgers at McDonald’s? The map below is based on data compiled by Statista (there are no data for some countries, marked with an asterisk on the map, in which case I used other publicly available sources).
It is interesting, but perhaps not surprising, that the number is higher in wealthier countries than in less wealthy Eastern European countries. What could be rather surprising is France’s figure, which is among the highest in Europe.

Most Vegetarian friendly Slav destinations:
- Poland – 10.1
- Czechia – 9.0
- Slovenia – 8.7
- Slovakia – 7.4
- Croatia – 6.7
- Bulgaria – 5.9
- Russia – 4.2
- Serbia – 3.7
- Ukraine – 1.8
- Belarus – 1.1
- BiH – 0.9
- Montenegro – 0*
- Macedonia – 0*
These numbers also are a good indicator of westernization of Slavic countries where you can see the influence on west gradually pushing towards east. As far as the chart is looking, people from Poland and Czechia will be the fattest out of all Slavs!
