And while there are too many lovely sightings to count in this type of event, a few Slavic beauties have captured everyone’s attention.

Irina Shayk

A regular feature in Cannes, half Russian half Tatar beauty is certainly one of the best dressed models and most beautiful in the world. Born in a small city of Yemanzhelinsk bordering Kazakhstan and raised by a single mother, Shayk’s path to fame and success was far from easy. A former marketing student, her first breakthrough in modeling happened in 2004, when she won the title of Miss Chelyabinsk. Soon afterwards, she was recruited by modeling agencies in Moscow and Milan, and her career started to flourish. Securing premium modeling contracts such as those for Intimissimi, Swimsuit Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret, Shayk also raised her profile by dating Cristiano Ronaldo. Following years were prosperous for Shayk, as she appeared on the covers of Vogue, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, and was even a placard bearer for Russia at the opening ceremony of 2014 Winter Olympics. Despite professional success, Shayk parted ways with Ronaldo in 2015. However, soon afterwards she started dating her now husband, Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper and eventually gave birth to their daughter Lea in 2017.

Petra Nemcova

Czech beauty with a career spanning over two decades, Nemcova has never failed to delight on a Cannes red carpet. Wearing luxurious Zuhair Murad couture, Karvina native is a vision in her elegant, yet simple ensembles. More than a beautiful face, Petra is known for her philanthropic efforts, as she founded charity organisation Happy Hearts Fund in 2004, after finding herself in a disastrous Thailand tsunami. Discovered on the streets of Prague by a fashion scout, Nemcova made her first step towards modeling by entering Elite Model Look competition in 1995. Since then, her fashion career went from strenght to strenght, as she modeled for Victoria’s Secret, Bulgari, Max Factor, Schwartzkopf, Cartier and many other brands, and graced the covers of Elle, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire. However, her success in professional life was in stark contrast to personal tragedy she suffered in 2004. Vacationing in Thailand with her fiance, photographer Simon Atlee, Petra found herself in a midst of Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Suffering a broken pelvis, Nemcova survived by hanging on to a palm tree for eight hours before she was taken to hospital by rescue services. However, her fiancee wasn’t as fortunate, as he died in the tsunami of drowning. Inspired by her experience, Nemcova dedicated more of her work in the direction of charity and environmental causes, and only continued to do fashion and modeling as a hobby. A vegan and supporter of healthy lifestyle, Nemcova previously dated Haitian Prime Minister, but they have reportedly separated.
