Ukraine anniversary of national independence with military parade

Kiev (source)- Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko on Aug. 24 staged a symbolic Independence Day parade while battling separatists in the east of the country.

In same time while parade was being held in Kiev by ethnic Ukrainians, on the east war-torn part of Ukraine, the separatists — who are considered terrorists by Ukraine’s leaders and who claim to hold more than 1,000 hostiages — publicly announced the action would take place simultaneously with the military parade held in Kyiv by the Ukrainian government. They called it an “anti-fascist rally.” Ukrainian soldiers taken prisoner by Russian-backed separatists are paraded on Donetsk’s main street.
