The wondrous Dubrovnik has lots to offer to history buffs, GOT fans, beachgoers, adventurers lusting for interesting sports or simply to someone who’s looking for a nice vacation. If this Croatian city is on your bucket list, make sure you look up the following places and activities.

Check out the Game Of Thrones tours

Fans of the hit HBO TV series Game Of Thrones make up for a significant portion of the tourists visiting Dubrovnik on annual basis. The city walls, fort Lovrijenac, the Minčeta tower and many other spots have been used as filming locations, so it should come to no surprise than there are more than a couple GOT tours you can book for your trip to Dubrovnik.

Dine out at the Michelin star restaurant

Being appointed even a single Michelin star is among the greatest prizes any restaurant can earn and fortunately for all foodies out there, Croatia has not just one, but 3 Michelin star restaurants! The one in Dubrovnik is situated right atop the city’s fortifications and its name (360 Dubrovnik) matches the cinematic 360 degree panoramas guests can revel in. Of course, dining at fancy spots doesn’t come cheap, so make sure you can handle the menu’s price tags.

Head over to the 3rd oldest and still functioning pharmacy on Earth

Some might overlook the Franciscan Monastery complex dating back to the early 1300s. The construction of the monastery, the church, the library and the pharmacy took centuries, yet the pharmacy is still functioning even nowadays, which basically makes it the 3rd oldest existing and still functioning one on the planet. Typical Romanesque and Gothic style can be spotted from every angle of the complex’s exterior, whereas the interior houses magnificent Baroque ornaments, liturgical artefacts and 20,000 books.

Delve in some history

Speaking of books and artefacts, Dubrovnik bears notable historical significance for all of Croatia. It was a crucial maritime city in Dalmatia, Ragusa and Yugoslavia and it thrived through the centuries because of its strategic location and the plethora of opportunities for maritime trade. Historical tours, museum exhibitions and instructive books are available throughout the city for those willing to learn about Dubrovnik’s past.

Go back in time in Dubrovnik’s Old Town

Another way to explore the past is to take a stroll down the old town of Dubrovnik. Medieval buildings, cobblestone pavements, meandering streets, picturesque little townhouses and old craftsmen shops – all of this and so much more awaits. Albeit small in terms of size, Dubrovnik is rich in history and culture.

Take a cruise

The beauty of the Adriatic sea is partially responsible for Dubrovnik’s overall appeal to locals and foreigners alike. Between spring and autumn cruise tours are available for a small admission fee. If you’re up to the task, you can also rent a motor boat or a kayak for a more private tour, thus escaping the crowds while exploring the city’s panoramic views from the water. Many would agree that sightseeing from a boat is the best way to see the outskirts of Dubrovnik and to bask in all of its fortifications’ glory.

Learn how to scuba dive

Numerous scuba diving sites are scattered around the city and even if you’ve never done it before, you can still learn by taking a course at the scuba diving schools. What’s truly great about this activity is that you don’t need any previous knowledge, special preparation or equipment. In fact, according to the instructors, you don’t even have to go inside the water on an empty stomach.

Don’t forget to ride the cable car

For those of you who aren’t fond of boats and water, the best lookout spot in Dubrovnik would be the cable car cabin, which starts its course at the Srd Hill above the city. During the summer it’s open all week long from 9 AM up until midnight. In other words, the gorgeous scenic views of the city and its surroundings can be enjoyed not only during the day, but also after sundown. The ride won’t take more than 10 minutes, but it’s absolutely worth it!
