Necroposter in the thread. In Russian, we have “ΠΎΠΊΠΎ” as an archaism, here is a saying “ΠΎΠΊΠΎ Π·Π° ΠΎΠΊΠΎ” what’s literally means “eye for an eye”.
Just a different Slavic root.
From Old East Slavic Π³Π»Π°Π·Ρ (glazΕ, βball, eyeβ), from Proto-Slavic *glazΡ (βballβ), from Proto-Indo-European *g(Κ°)el- (βround, spherical, stoneβ).
Russian also has ΠΎΠΊΠΎ and it is a well-known albeit not a commonly used word. We do prefer glaz.
