It looks like giant lays on his back, his head his head being the main peak of Klek, and his feet being two smaller peaks of Klečica. Although giant looks like very much asleep, it doesn’t seem that way during thunderstorms. The legend says that when there are thunders and lightning flashes around Klek, the witches have their meeting!

Historian and writer Rudolf Strohal wrote a series of folk stories at the end of the 19th century about witches from this area. Stories said that these women cooked potions from mysterious herbs and oils, then after they rubbed their bodies with it, flew to Klek and destroyed the taverns, dance for hours in the witchcraft dances, slaughter husbands and devour the children… and and other witchy things.

Many of the myths Strohal recorded as folk legends are actually testimonies of women accused of being witches, and various witnesses and judges on the actual witch-hunts in northwestern Croatia during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Klek is often referred to as a venue for these meetings in mentioned confessions. Some of the women accused of being witches were burned alive. One of the witches, however, was, according to the legend, pertified. At the entrance to the village of Bjelsko under Klek, there is a rock-like mushroom rock, which the people call Visibaba (translated: hanging old woman).

While the pursuit of witches in Western Europe was at at its top in the 17th century, the most horrible forms of torture of women accused of being witches began around 1698. in Croatia.

That horrible tortures ended almost 100 years later, with a direct order of the emperor Mary Theresa. But, important thing to stress here is that witches were praised and considered life savers among people, and it was actually Church who tried to demolish them.
