“Bansko” Ski Resort:

Bansko is, by far, the most popular ski resort not only in Bulgaria but on the Balkans. It is an ancient town with extensive modern ski area which makes it Bulgaria’s top resort. The perfect location, excellent ski and snowboard opportunities, wonderful nature, the high quality of service and the delicious traditional cuisine attracts not only Bulgarians but also Greeks, Russians, Macedonians and Turkish who flock to this destination every year. The winter season usually starts in December and lasts until the end of March. During the daytime a wide range of activities is available. There are 14 lifts, 4 quads, and a modern gondola, which goes up to the main mountain from the top end of town. However, during the busiest time of the year – Christmas, the gondola is prone to long queues and the journey down the mountain is a 7 km down a path. Fortunately, there are many cafes and restaurants that serve hot drinks and fresh meals. Instead of waiting, you can enjoy the lively après scene which is absolutely amazing on sunset or makes new friends.<

After the exhausting day on the slopes, you can enjoy a cozy, delicious dinner in one of the numerous traditional Bulgarian restaurants located in the town of Bansko. The most inviting site is the slow-burning fireplace and the all-wood interior in the most of the restaurants which will make you feel home.

“Borovets” Ski Resort:

Borovets is one of the biggest Bulgarian ski resorts situated on the northern slopes of the Musala ridge in the eastern part of Rila Mountain. Just 56 from the capital of Sofia, Borovets is the ideal place for winter sports and recreation for both solo travelers and families.

The climate in the resort is mild, with a lot of snow during the winter season. The average temperature in January, which is the coldest month of the year, is about 4.8 ° C. The ski season usually lasts from mid-December to April.

Borovets offers excellent conditions for winter sports ranging from alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing to freestyle and free ride. There are 24 ski runs with a total length of 58 km. There are many different slopes and each one is a different experience. The tracks vary in difficulty and they are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. Borovets is a great challenge and a favorite place for snowboarders due to the variety and the complexity of the terrains.

If you do not feel skiing at all, you can enjoy nature with its splendid views and sun shining most of the time. For those who do not want going out , spa packages are offered in almost every hotel and spa center. You can spoil yourself with a great variety of procedures ranging from massages to sauna and hot steam bath.

The resort continues to be one of the busiest places during the night as the perfect night skiing conditions are provided. Apart from that, there are numerous taverns and bars which offer a great variety of traditional Bulgarian meals in a cozy and friendly atmosphere.

Prices are higher comparing to the local standard but definitely cheaper compared to other ski resorts across the world which make Borovets an appealing destination among those who seek snow adventures.

“Pamporovo” Ski Resort: 

Among the most popular ski destinations in Bulgaria is Pamporovo – the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort. It is located 85 km from Plovdiv and 240 km from the capital of Sofia. The resort is situated on 1650 m above the sea level in the heart of Rhodope mountain at the foot of Snejanka peak (1926 m).

Although the season lasts long enough ( from December to April), the winter here is mild offering more than 120 sunny days. The average air temperature is – 3°C which is lower than the average in the country. The ski slopes of Pamporovo are safeguarded and maintained in a perfect condition.The ski runs are covered with snow throughout the whole skiing season. The mountain slopes in Pamporovo are suitable for skiing and snowboarding for both beginners and advanced skiers.

If you do not bring your ski equipment with you, do not worry. Ski rentals are available near the ski runs and the lift stations. You can also book and rent ski equipment and lift pass. There are numerous ski schools in Pamporovo where your children or you (if a beginner) will feel safe and definitely will have fun.

Like the other ski and sea resorts in Bulgaria, medical and dental services are provided here including ambulance, first aid on the ski slopes, clinic, and a 24 h a day emergency ski patrol services. It is good to know that all dental services and some medical services must be paid in cash to the doctors or clinics. They should provide the necessary receipts, bills, and invoices describing the cost and the service so that you can claim back the expense to your insurance company.
