Polar Bear Invasion On The Remote Russian Town Triggered The State Of Emergency

In the archipelago of Novaya Zemly there are about 3,000 inhabitants who have sent a call to the Russian authorities. This distant Arctic region was found under the siege of hungry polar bears descending into the populated area. A state of emergency has been put in place, with people “afraid to go outside” and “daily life in turmoil”, according to deputy head of the local administration, Aleksandr Minayev, as cited by Siberian Times.

This especially concerns children, with schools and kindergartens empty this week. Even that might not provide safety. There are reports of bears wandering into apartment blocks reports Russia Beyond.

“People are scared and are afraid to leave their homes, parents do not want to send children to school, state-wide alert is declared at the level of the entire region, there are records showing that polar bears are trying to feed digging garbage on containers, trying to beam bears with dogs and trumpeting from the car, did not help, “said Alexandar Minayev, vice president of the Guardian region .

Russia has declared polar bears with endangered species, so it is legally forbidden to kill them. The services warn that they will have to resort to the violation of this law, unless other attempts are made to launch animals, due to the rescue of the local population.

“I have been in Novaya Zemlya since 1983, yet I’ve never seen such a massive polar bear invasion,” Novaya Zemlya head of local administration Zigansha Musin told the Siberian Times. He added that the beasts are “literally chasing people”.

There is a question that has caused polar bears to descend into the populated area? Perhaps the fact that global warming loses natural habitats. Perhaps the fact that people lose the natural area and the food because of people.

Perhaps the solution to the whole problem would be certain if scientists and states are more geared to addressing climate change instead of resorting to the destruction of nearly-destroyed animal species.

According to authorities, a team of experts is on its way to Belushya Guba, situated on the archipelago Novaya Zemlya, and with a population of around 1,970. The majority are people in some way connected to the work of the nuclear test sites located on the archipelago.
