The Slavic parts of Eastern Europe have also produced a lot of guys that made it big and deserve to be mentioned as well. Since John Malkovich has been a household name for so long and Krist Novoselich of Nirvana is no longer in the spotlight, it’s time to honor other male celebrities that come from Slavic countries.

So all of these money making machines that we look on movies sometimes are a bit “closer” to you than you might think. Just take a look at the gallery of the most successful Slavic men in Hollywood and Western world in general:

1. Joe Manganiello

Famous for starring in Magic Mike and Sam Raimi’s Spiderman, and series such as True Blood, How I Met Your Mother and ER, Joe was born to a Croatian mother in 1976.

2. Jared Padalecki

Jared first became known as an actor after appearing on Gilmore Girls, but only gained global recognition as Sam Winchester on Supernatural. He was born in the US to a Polish father.

3. Jack White

The lead singer and guitarist of duo The White Stripes, as well as The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, Jack was born in Detroit to a Polish mother, who’s apparently still insisting Jack brings a Polish wife home.

4. Eric Bana

Eric was born Eric Banadinović in Melbourne to a Croatian father. Some of his most notable movies are Hulk, Troy, Black Hawk Down and Star Trek.

5. Tomislav MIlicevic

Tomislav “Tomo” Milicevic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina to Croatian parents. He’s the lead guitarist of rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Tomislav’s sister Ivana also has an avid acting career.

6. Ashton Kutcher

This A-lister started his career as Kelso in That 70’s Show and moved on to become one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. Ashton was born to a Czech father and half-Czech mother.

7. Jason Mraz

The singer famous for hits such as “I’m yours” and “I won’t give up” was born in the US, but has Czech and Slovak descent through his father, Tomáš Mraz. The surname Mraz means “Frost” in Czech (and basically any other Slavic language).

8. David Boreanaz

David is mostly known for playing Angel in TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Seely Booth in Bones. David’s surname Boreanaz is of Slovenian-Italian origin and was originally spelled “Berginc”, while his mother is half Slovak.

9. Leonardo Di Caprio

Famous actor’s grandmother Helene Indenbirken was actually born as Yelena Smirnova in Russia. DiCaprio referrs to himself as “half Russian“. He stated he’d love to play Putin if there’s ever a Putin biopic. Not to mention he also has a Russian doppelgänger.

10. “Weird Al” Yankovich

Weird Al is known as a best-selling musician, parodist, actor and film producer. Famous for hits such as Eat it, White&Nerdy, Like a Surgeon and Amish Paradise, Alfred Matthew Yankovic was born to a Serbian father, Nick Yankovic.

11. Werner Herzog

Herzog, known as screenwriter, author, actor and producer, and according to many, the greatest living film director, was born Werner Stipetić in Munich, to a Croatian mother. Werner later adopted his father’s surname Herzog, which he thought sounded more impressive for a filmmaker.

12. Andreas Kisser

Andreas is a Brazilian guitar player, songwriter and producer. He is most known for being the guitarist for the metal band Sepultura. Kisser was born in Brazil to a Slovene mother from Maribor.

13. Mark Matejka

Mark is a musician born in Texas, US to a Czech father. He is best known as a guitarist in Lynyrd Skynyrd.

14. Goran Visnjic

Goran is one of the most successful Slavic actors in Hollywood. He first received appraisal portraying Dr. Luka Kovac in ER, then went on to star in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Beginners and The Deep End among others. He was born to Croatian parents in 1972.

15. John Krasinski

American film and television star John Krasinski is probably best known for his role as “Jim Halpert” on NBC’s The Office. He was born in the US to a Polish father.

Karl Malden (1912-2009) – born Mladen George Sekulovich to a Serbian father and Czech mother.

Jack Palance (1919-2006) – Born Volodymyr Palahniuk to an Ukrainian father and Polish mother.

Yul Brenner (1920-1985) – Born Yuliy Borisovich Briner to Russian parents with 1/4 Buryat ancestry.
